Education is said to be key to success and development, it is the easiest and fastest way to improve the socio-economic development and to reduce poverty if not alleviate it in the Ghanaian rural communities. It is also believed that “to educate a woman is to educate a whole nation".
However, it is unfortunate that most girls in deprived areas are demotivated in going to school owing to lack of essential social amenities like access to good schools, professional teachers, water and electricity and again extreme poverty. The sadden effect is that most girls end up in unpreparedness school dropout at any point in time resulting into rampant impromptu teenage pregnancies, malnourished communities and excessive hardship on individuals, families and communities which promotes the vicious cycle of poverty in the Ghanaian Community. It is therefore not surprising that more than 80.0 percent of the Businesses owned by Ghanaian Women are in the Informal Sector per the 2021 Population and Housing Census conducted by Ghana Statistical Service.
Cynthia Kusiwaa Bona, being a victim of these communities but with determination, commitment, hardwork, perseverance and discipline managed to climb high the academic ladder to become a successful Professional Teacher. She was inspired to embark on this Project – Today’s Women Network Ghana (TOWN) as a way of looking back and giving back to society to help curve this menace to improve lives of girls and women in deprived communities, hence established TOWN in the year, 2017.
